Your Trusted Independent Candidate

Hi, I'm Chris Hill and thanks for putting your trust in me for the last 4 years, it’s been an honour to serve as your Deputy Mayor and Trusted Independent Councillor for Como Ward.

I’m a true independent and have no affiliations with political parties, nor have I ever been a member of a political party or worked in any capacity for a political party.

I’m a local Dad who has lived in the Ward for nearly 2 decades with my wife Mette and our 2 daughters Ella and Marli. Our family have always had strong links within our Como Ward community via our schools, sporting clubs and local businesses and Mette, Marli and I all work within the City of Kingston.

As Chair of Save the Edgy we successfully campaigned to protect the Heritage of the 135-year-old Mentone Hotel building and dramatically reduced the scale of the inappropriate 4 storey residential development planned for the site. Although it's disappointing the bar is yet to open, our Kingston community are resolute in ensuring the Owner honours the commitment he made at VCAT for a 416sqm hospitality space and I understand there has been genuine interest from reputable local operators willing to invest significantly in a premium fit-out.

I founded Kingston Save Our Streets (K-SOS) to fight inappropriate increases to building heights and protect our neighbourhood character. Thanks to my work with K-SOS and my advocacy as your Independent Councillor, we were successful getting many Mentone and Parkdale streets down-zoned to maximum 2-storeys and importantly also fought to protect Kingston’s long-standing coastal design and development overlay.

As your Trusted Independent Councillor, I’ve worked closely with you the community, key stakeholders and my Councillor colleagues to ensure robust decision making, reviewed foreshore planting, enhanced biodiversity, supported less fortunate residents with new affordable housing, opened the new Mentone Life Saving Club and resurfaced athletics track at Dolamore Reserve, and also supported Neighbourhood Watch Mentone’s launch and remain committed to the group’s ongoing success.

I’ve advocated for traffic improvements in Mentone and Cheltenham, safer school crossings, better public space outcomes with the level crossing removals, launched the Kingston Sustainable Business Awards and supported our community in their fight to overturn the State Government’s decision to close the Latrobe Street level crossing.

If re-elected, I’ll continue to use my unbiased, consultative approach to work with fellow Councillors to negotiate the best outcomes for our Kingston community.
